The TallWood Design Institute is excited to announce the seventh annual Mass Timber Research and Design Symposium at Oregon State University!

This symposium offers a unique platform for architecture, wood science, and engineering faculty from the University of Oregon (UO) and Oregon State University (OSU) to showcase important mass timber research and public initiatives. Attendees will also get an exclusive preview of our MPP House Prototype.

Join us to explore over twenty mass timber research projects in dynamic, concise sessions. Major symposium themes include:

  • Fire & Moisture Performance
  • Manufacturing & Supply Chains
  • Design, Sustainability, Building Performance, & Human Health
  • Structural & Seismic

Our initiatives aim to foster critical partnerships across various sectors to tackle pressing societal challenges such as mega-fires, sustainable forestry and construction practices, local economic development, and affordable housing.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour our MPP House Prototype and hear from key project leads about its design, performance, and potential applications.

This event is open to the public. The content is generally geared toward architects, engineers, construction professionals, manufacturers, code officials, developers, researchers, students, or other stakeholders interested in mass timber and mass timber research.

3 AIA credits are available for attendees of this event.

The 2024 Mass Timber Research & Design Innovation Symposium will be held at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. The event will occur in three parts: research symposium, tour, and reception.

The Research Symposium presentations will take place in the Construction & Engineering Hall in the LaSells Stewart Center.

Tours of the MPP House Prototype will be at the A.A. “Red” Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Lab. A happy hour reception with light refreshments will follow in the atrium of the Peavy Forest Science Center.

As the event approaches, a parking code will be emailed to you with specific instructions on which parking lot to go to. That code will cover the cost of parking on campus for the day. Please ensure you are parked in the correct lot. The code will only work in one specific location.

Yes, TDI will be sponsoring a free bus to transport attendees traveling from Portland. Please indicate your interest in the shuttle on your RSVP. An email will be sent out to attendees with more information about the shuttle closer to the event.

Yes, TDI will be providing a catered lunch for symposium participants. In addition, coffee and refreshments will also be provided throughout the symposium. Finally, a happy hour reception with light appetizers and drinks will be provided following the tour.
