Madison Wells, Outreach Assistant

Madison is an Outreach Assistant at TallWood Design Institute, where she researches, writes, and designs custom content. She is currently enrolled in her second year at Oregon State University, where her degree will be in Design and Innovation Management. She is a native Oregonian and has a background in social media, email marketing, graphic design, and photography.

Jörn Dettmer, Technical Manager at TDI

Jörn has his trade certificate as a cabinet maker in Germany in 1999 and has been working in the wood industry ever since. He graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Applied Sciences in Eberswalde, Germany in 2007, and spent several years in research and development for window and door manufacturing. In 2013 Jörn obtained a M.Sc. in Wood Science from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada. Before joining TDI, he was a lecturer and the Technical Operations Manager at the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) at UBC. At CAWP Jörn was managing research projects in the areas of wood products development and manufacturing, process optimization, Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machining, and robotic milling.

Byrne Miyamoto, Structural Testing Coordinator

Byrne is the Structural Testing Coordinator at the A.A. "Red" Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Laboratory, where he oversees and aides in the design and implementation of timber research. Byrne received a B.S. in Renewable materials and an M.S. in Wood Science from Oregon State State University and is currently working on his Ph.D. in Wood Science, with a minor in Statistics. Byrne's research has ranged from assessment and implementation of structural properties of new wood species into the National Design Specificiations to thermal degradation of engineered wood composites. During his time at OSU Byrne has served as a laboratory research assistant at the Gene D. Knudson Wood Engineering Laboratory. Byrne also recently completed work through an NSF award at the Forest Products Laboratory, where he looked at the performance of CLT adhesives at elevated temperatures.
