Wood Science 101 for Designers

Tuesday, September 29, 2020 - 4:00am to Tuesday, December 1, 2020 - 4:00am

A basic underdstanding of wood science--the study of the behavioral properties of wood as a material--is important for designers as a foundation for informed design-thinking with wood. Facilitated by TallWood Design Institute, Wood Science 101 for Designers is a brand new online lecture series aimed at distilling the fundamentals of wood behavior into a course consisting of just nine (9) lectures, each taught by a different faculty expert at Oregon State University. Lectures Topics include:

Wood Anatomy: Part I + II

Mechanical Properties: Part I + II

Acoustics, Air, and Energy Efficiency

Mass Timber Manufacturing

Thermal Properties and Fire Performance

Wood-Water Relations

Bio-deterioration, Durability and Treatments

When: Fall 2020; September 29 - December 1; Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:15 pm
