Course Aim and Target Audience
This two-day workshop will introduce participants to basic computer-aided-design tasks using the Cadwork software application for the design of mass timber building components and structures. This course is intended for employees of mass timber manufacturing firms as well as designers, architects, construction managers, and builders who wish to use Cadwork to create 3D models, 2D construction drawings, material takeoffs, optimization of takeoffs and schedules, and/or renderings for sales & marketing purposes. Preparations for computer-aided manufacturing will be discussed but are not the main focus of the course. The skills covered will be at the basic and intermediate levels. Examples will be specific to mass timber construction.
Learners should have a basic understanding of general construction terms. Prior computer-aided-design experience is beneficial but not essential.
The workshop will be classroom-based and will combine demonstration and explanation of features with various participant exercises. Upon registering for this course, participants will be given access to a library of detailed online walk-through videos. These can be used to prepare for the classroom session, and can also be accessed as reference materials after completion of the course. The video series includes a number of videos that walk the learner through the process of constructing a two-story mass timber structure within the 3D software environment.
Due to the need to supervise and provide learner feedback for the practical exercises the class size will be limited to 10 people.
Participants should download a 90-day trial license of Cadwork, which will be provided upon proof of registration for this course. Participants should install Cadwork on their own laptop and bring it to the workshop.
Out-of-town participants may be able to secure OSU contract rates at local hotels. Please inquire for details.
Please contact Evan Schmidt at
