Introduction to Cadwork - Virtual Workshop Series

Tuesday, September 14, 2021 - 10:00am to Thursday, October 7, 2021 - 12:00pm

This workshop series will introduce participants to Cadwork, an application commonly used in designing timber structures, particularly for translating modeled timbers to the CNC environment.

This course is intended for anyone interested in deepening their skills in the timber design/fabricate/build sectors, including designers, architects, construction managers, and builders who wish to use Cadwork to create 3D models, 2D construction drawings, material takeoffs, optimization of takeoffs and schedules, and/or renderings for sales & marketing purposes. Preparations for computer-aided manufacturing will be discussed but are not the main focus of the course. The skills covered will be at the basic and intermediate levels. Examples will be specific to mass timber construction.

Learners should have a basic understanding of general construction terms. Prior computer-aided-design experience is beneficial but not essential.

More information on Cadwork Version 28 can be found here.

This course will consist of eight (8) virtual workshop sessions with a Cadwork instructor. Upon registering for this course, participants will be given access to a library of detailed online walk-through videos. These can be used to prepare for the classroom session, and can also be accessed as reference materials after completion of the course. The video series includes a number of videos that walk the learner through the process of constructing a two-story mass timber structure within the 3D software environment.

Participants will be provided a 90-day trial license of Cadwork, which will be given upon proof of registration for this course.
